Sacrificial Expression

Having an opinion is a right we all have. It’s how we use it that makes the world go around.

My heart has been significantly heavier especially these past couple of weeks due to all the great fights going on in this world. I wrote this poem a few days ago, and finally reading it over I became very critical of the lack of fluidity and demanding statements. However I also believe there is value in the rawness of writing because these are the petals that have fallen to declare my thoughts and feelings. Everything is jumbled up right now as it may also be for you. Frustrations at times may sound and feel like hypocrisy, but these words will be ringing in my head until they become my personal reality. WE are ONE. Every little drop makes an ocean. Let’s start acting like it.

Take courage and have a little faith.

Those who speak must also listen

Those holding their tongue, must cry out!

Do not numb yourselves

Do not be afraid

Express these emotions

So real, so painful

They do not hide,

Why should we?

Unveil the good you’ve been holding

Say something!

Do not wait

Until the speaker walks off the stage

I see you turn to your friends

Telling them your insightful arguments

But these listeners are your friends!

Friends typically are unified by mind

Heart and spirit

Please tell me what you told them

Your perspective is one of a kind

Tell the world

The world isn’t only Facebook

It isn’t always your inner circle

And definitely not this piece of paper

If you write

Share the ink

If you speak

Use your words wisely

If you dance

Dance until your heart stops

If you lead

Take your enemies with you

If you research

Educate anyone who listens

If you cry

Boldly reveal your tears

If you’re an optimist

People are thirsty for your light

If you’re a pessimist

And look around

There are people here

Doing everything they can

The job won’t be finished

Unless we all pitch in

Hold each other accountable

Let’s not let hard work go to waste

Getting on our hands and knees

Crawling for justice

No one said it’d be pretty

The work is dirty

So ugly

Many have already faced death

You cannot pick battles

We are all in the same war

It’s terrifying

No one wants to fight

But you don’t have a choice

Take action

Yes, you will get hurt

But we cannot forget

And if we stop,

There is already defeat

Give everything

Do not be silent

Do not be ignorant

Do not be harsh

Have faith

Love graciously

Fire never put out another fire

Fighting never had to be violent

Cold or backstabbing

God help us all

To be more like You

Bearing pure fruit:

But greatest of all:

It was always love

Show our children

What it’s like to have a great world

That has never been safer

More joyful

I am not strong

Without God,

I crumble

But with Him,

I am lifted to my feet

Freed from the oppression of others

And loved

So loved

Right now

In the midst of chaos

He is all I need

Let us mourn together

And pledge to love

“See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. The mind of the rash will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected. For the fool speaks folly, his mind is busy with evil: He practices ungodliness and spreads error concerning the Lord; the hungry he leaves empty and from the thirsty he withholds water. The scoundrel’s methods are wicked, he makes up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just. But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands.” -Isaiah 32:1-8 NIV
